Standing Room

A hub for music and other performing arts as they should be - live, vibrant, and accessible.

Standing Room is about performance.

We wanted a place that really does performance justice, that not only helps fans find them, but also supports artists in their work. Back in 2008, we looked around and just didn't really find anything that celebrated live shows the way we did, and so we set out to fix that.

  • Keep up with everything we have planned at Standing Around, the official Standing Room blog.
  • Check out our showcases of users and troupes, picked by a clever little robot, fresh daily.
  • Browse around -- member and troupe pages have related tidbits under the About tabs that help move you from artist to artist. Solid performers run in herds, so the tidbits are a good place to start exploring.
  • Sign up for an account and create a page for your troupe (a band, theater, comedy, dance group, etc). You can then upload photos and audio content from your performances, and add links to your members' pages.

What can Standing Room do for you?

For performers, Standing Room provides a cleanly designed, effective, and cost free presence on the web. Don't waste your time or money managing your web page -- you should focus on your art. Besides taking the tech details out of your hands, Standing Room also helps extend the reach of your concerts by making them available online. But our secret sauce is a lab that will analyze your performance activity and suggest ways to connect with new fans.

For fans, Standing Room has a repository of concerts and provides ways for you to find new music, though we're not trying to be an Internet radio station (you have great options for that already). Many artists have a vibrancy outside of their recordings that you can't experience without actually attending a concert. That's a problem -- how do you find these great burgeoning performers who can't yet tour in places near you? Standing Room fixes that.

For venues, we give you better tools to curate your shows and serve as a virtual advisor for your bookings. Performers can't perform without spaces to perform in, can they? We hope there's a snowball effect here -- making it easier for fans to find live music makes it better for artists to perform, which means they'll need more places to perform, which will create more variety and interest in music, which will create more fans, and on and on...
